Neighboring Downtown San Diego, Point Loma is minutes from the airport and Mission Valley. This hilly peninsula defines San Diego Bay and is known for its amazing coastal views. This seaside village is called “where California began” because it was the landing place of the first European exploration.
The town is filled with local shops and restaurants but it is best known for its famous landmark; the Old Point Loma lighthouse. The lighthouse makes its home near in the Cabrillo National Monument, which is another historic San Diegan landmark.
The peninsula encompasses many neighborhoods most of which are single-family homes. Ocean Beach is one of the popular neighborhoods located on the Northwest border of the peninsula. It hosts one of the best lookout points in the area called Sunset Cliffs. The communities serve local residents as well as yachting and sport fishing interests. Connected by a causeway is Shelter Island, which boasts San Diego’s Navy military base, which reflects the local population.
The main economic forces driving the local economy here are military facilities, neighborhood-serving retail, and marine recreation, particularly yachting and deep-sea fishing.
Point Loma is a convenient seaside village that’s close to everything you need. A quaint community, Point Loma is a lovely coastal retreat.
